LCSO warns of fake COVID-19 messages posing to come from National Guard

(WTXL) — The Leon County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about fake messages circulating around social media that are posing to come from the National Guard.

The fake social media post consist of messages that cover serious issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic including homeland security and dispatching U.S. soldiers and first responders.

The National Guard also took to Facebook to clear up any false rumors that have been floating around.

Authorities are urging the public to check the facts before sharing posts on social media.

In addition, FEMA officials have created a webpage dedicated to coronavirus rumor control.
