(WTXL) — Flags will be flown at half-staff in honor of United States Representative Elijah Cummings.
Cummings died on Thursday due to longstanding health challenges. Cummings represented Maryland’s 7th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives, serving from April 16, 1996 to October 17, 2019.
He was the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform and a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
To honor his memory, President Donald Trump directed all flags to be lowered to half-staff.
Governor Ron DeSantis also ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be immediately flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the State of Florida until sunset on Friday.
