ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia NAACP and Common Cause Georgia are suing Secretary of State Brian Kemp over people eliminated from the state's registered voter list.

The federal lawsuit filed Wednesday argues that the process used to remove people from the registered voter list violates federal law because it is kick-started when people don't vote.

Kemp in a statement called the lawsuit "completely without merit." He says the state's Department of Law reviewed the groups' concerns in 2015 and concluded that the process meets federal voting rights law.

A letter provided by Kemp's office says people who haven't voted or made other contact for three years are asked for address confirmation. If there is no response within 30 days and the person doesn't vote for two more years, their name is removed.
