TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- The meeting went past midnight, and hundreds still packed the commission chambers at City Hall -- but the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Commission has voted to deny a proposal to rezone Myers Park.
Tuesday night, residents who live in and around Tallahassee's Myers Park neighborhood showed up in full force at a public hearing at City Hall.
The meeting that started at 6 p.m. went for hours, going past 1 a.m.
Many residents strongly opposed a plan for the city to rezone several acres of public land for a private developer to use for housing. More than 300 residents packed the meeting with standing room only.
Many wore "red" to send a visual message to city planning officials that they're upset with the current proposal.
By the conclusion of the meeting, the Planning Commission voted to deny the proposal. The recommendation had been to approve.
The matter will still go before the city and county commissions. Exact dates for the meetings are unknown.
