Myakka City, FL (WWSB) - Two alligators were found mutilated and dead on the side of Wauchula Road near Taylor Road in Myakka City. The tails had been chopped off.
Crystal Ingramm and her husband made the gruesome discovery on Sunday as they were driving down the road to a Mother's Day breakfast.
"At first we were a little surprised, we were trying to go through the scenarios were they hit by a car, was some other wild animal that did this," said Ingramm. "But then it became pretty evident with the way the tails were cut off that a human had done this on purpose."
Ingramm and her husband immediately called the Florida Wildlife Commission, and the alligators were eventually removed hours later. In a statement we had received from FWC in part it says "The FWC responded and is looking into this situation. No additional details are available." Ingramm is hopeful they find out who did this soon. She tells us what's even more disturbing is that this appears to be an ongoing problem.
"It came to my attention that it's been an ongoing issue at least since February, and about 20 of them have been found throughout the area," said Ingramm. It's the same with the tails cut off."
If you do have any more information regarding the mutilation of these alligators you're being asked to contact the Florida Wildlife Commission at 888-404-3922.
