MOULTRIE, GA. (WTXL) - The Moultrie Observer reports, Gina Ann Thompson of Moultrie, was found not-guilty of murder Thursday in the shooting death of her boyfriend Johnny Crawford, 54, also of Moultrie.
According to the Moultrie Observer, a Colquitt County jury deliberated for only 4 hours before they found her not guilty on all counts in the 2012 killing.
Thompson, was acquitted on charges of malice murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. She had been accused of shooting Johnny Crawford, 54, while he was in bed at their 1445 U.S. 319 S. residence.
Thompson did not take the stand during the three-day trial to give her explanation of the events of that night. She initially reported the incident as a home invasion to the Colquitt County Sheriff's Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
However, her defense offered a possible explanation of battered-person syndrome for why Thompson shot Crawford and, in the time before she called 911, shot herself in the arm, broke a window and hid in the attic the .38-caliber pistol used in the shooting.
Witnesses who testified in her behalf painted Crawford as a violent man who frequently drank to excess. They said he was nearly always armed with two pistols and a knife and was mean-tempered when drunk. Several said that they had seen bruises on Thompson.
