MOULTRIE, Ga. (WTXL) - A police officer in Moultrie finds himself on the other side of the law.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, officer Sam Smith was arrested Friday and is accused of using excessive force on a suspect who was restrained after being taken into custody.
Thursday, the police chief requested the GBI to investigate the allegations. Smith is charged with assault and violation of oath of office.
He was booked in the Colquitt County Jail, but has since been bonded out.
The GBI says the investigation is ongoing.
