COLQUITT COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Investigators said that a Moultrie man was arrested for assaulting his wife and punching her infant after a two-day manhunt.
Sergeant Investigator Anderson, who is heading up the investigation, said that on Oct. 29 around 8:30 p.m. Xavier Sims and his wife got into an altercation in their apartment on Northside Drive in Moultrie, knocking her unconscious.
At some point, Anderson said that the wife was awakened by the sounds of the crying baby near by. After that, Sims punched the baby on the side of the face, knocking the baby out as well.
Anderson said that no motive had been pinpointed but the couple had apparently been arguing earlier in the day.
Sims has been charged with aggravated battery, cruelty to children, probation violation, and other charges related to the incident.
Investigators said that the baby is doing fine with the mother back at home.
The Moultrie Police Department is continuing to investigate this case and we will update this story as we confirm more details.
