JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WTXL) - The trial for a man accused of raping and killing an 8-year-old girl started in Jacksonville.
Four and a half years ago, Cherish Perrywinkle was taken from a Walmart before being raped, strangled and dumped behind a church in Jacksonville.
On Monday her mother took the stand in the trial of her accused killer, Donald Smith.
Rayne Perrywinkle told jurors she accepted a ride to Walmart from Smith after he offered to buy her daughter some clothes with a gift card.
The victim's mother recounted the moments leading up to her daughter's murder.
