TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The mother of a woman killed last year is sharing her story to raise awareness about domestic abuse.
Javona Glover was stabbed to death in August of 2016 at a Tallahassee Walgreens.
The 23-year-old was at work when police say her ex-boyfriend showed up, attacked her, and killed her. Glover left behind a young daughter and a grieving family.
Her mother, Jennifer Battles, says it's a daily challenge to stay positive and turn something tragic into an opportunity to help others.
"I never thought that I would be in this position, but I decided to use her story to give a voice to the voiceless. I think it's important to have victims know there is somebody that cares," Battles explained. "There is help, and they can reach out, and not everyone is going to blame the victim or shame the victim. For me, that's the utmost importance."
Battles will be the keynote speaker at an annual Candlelight Vigil and Survivor Speak Out organized by Refuge House, Tuesday night. You can find details on the event below:
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
