TAMPA, FL (WWSB) - The Tampa mother accused of leaving her child in the Hillsborough River to drown entered a plea of not guilty Friday.
According to the Hillsborough County Court, Shakalya Denson waived her right to appear in court and her attorney from the Public Defender's Office submitted the plea on her behalf.
Denson was arraigned on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child assault and grand theft auto.
On Aug. 2, Denson allegedly drove her 4-year-old daughter, Je'Hyrah Daniels, to the Hillsborough River in a stolen vehicle before wading into the water and leaving the young child to drown.
Denson is due back in court on Nov. 6.
