SARASOTA, Fla. - A shark tagging mission is officially underway in the Gulf of Mexico.
Mote Marine Laboratory has teamed up with OCEARCH as part of the study to collect data on various shark species and to track swimming patterns.
Four sharks were tagged last week. Blood samples were also taken. Two of the sharks were tagged with satellite tracking devices.
Those caught and released included a tiger shark, two hammerhead sharks, and a bull shark.
