LEE, FL (WTXL) -- Despite the nationwide Zika scare, visitors at Madison Blue Springs State Park say mosquitoes have not been bothersome.
Though some viewers have told WTXL that the mosquito presence has been unbearable at the park at times, other visitors at the springs say the bugs haven't been too much of a distraction.
"This is Florida, you know, and there's sitting water, and it's just like a nice place for mosquitoes to be," said first-time visitor Taylor Martin. "I feel like if you can't deal with it, then just don't come, you know?"
Park management says staff remove breeding opportunities wherever possible, including getting rid of puddles.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection says the park has never had to close early due to a mosquito presence. The staff encourage visitors to wear repellent when at the park.
