TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - More than 93.6 million people are expected to take to the roadways this weekend to reach their holiday destinations.
Triple A expects 1 and a half percent more people to make a holiday road trip this year, compared to last year.
The Florida Department of Transportation is getting ready to accommodate the increased traffic flow, by beefing up their "road rangers" team, which helps to patrol roads, and assist in rapid scene clearing when lanes of traffic are blocked by accidents.
To avoid accidents, officials say you should avoid distractions, following speed limits, keeping a safe vehicle's distance between you and the motorist in front of you, and always wear your seatbelt.
The Department of Transportation also recommends that travelers download the 511 app to get up to the minute traffic data for your planned route.
