TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - More than 16,000 people have now submitted applications for public housing in the Capital City.
The Tallahassee Housing Authority was taking applications for it's section 8 voucher waiting list all last month.
However, only 3,000 applicants will actually be placed on the waiting list, chosen by random lottery.
The public housing program is so popular that it's been a decade since the waiting list was last open. He housing authority's executive director says back then, just under 3,000 families applied.
According to data, the average voucher household in Tallahassee contains 2.8 people and has a household income of around $14,000 a year.
