TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - More development is coming to Gaines Street, and city officials are scheduled to discuss it on Monday.
Developers submitted project plans to the city to create a 92-unit, 294-bedroom student housing structure.
The proposed project would replace the last few buildings considered 'unique' to the area, including Tallahassee's beloved venue, The Warehouse.
The city's design review team is working closely with developers to solidify architecture and landscaping site plans for the new additions.
"At this point the staff is supporting the site plan, and we're supporting two of the three deviations," said Bill Pable, Special Projects Coordinator for City of Tallahassee. "The two deviations that we're supporting is the requested change of going from five stories to six stories, and we're also supporting the request to change the setback requirement from 15 feet to 23 feet."
If approved, the site plan details will align future student housing with the seemingly ever-rising skylines of Collegetown.
The city will hear more from the developers Monday at 9 a.m. in the Renaissance Center.
