VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - An airman from Moody Air Force Base is set to face court martial next month on charges of child porn and sexual assault of a child.
According to the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, Staff Sergeant Troy Ecklund was arrested in August on charges of child molestation. The charges came about after the FBI brought the sheriff's office a video allegedly showing Ecklund engaging in inappropriate actions with a child.
According to a statement from the U.S. Air Force's 23rd Wing, Ecklund was a member of the 23rd Equipment Maintenance Squadron at Moody Air Force Base. After learning of the case, he was charged with violating the Uniformed Code of Military Justice, the statement said.
Ecklund now faces two counts of sexual assault of a child and three counts of knowingly and wrongfully producing, possessing and distributing child pornography. Ecklund is currently being held by military authorities in pre-trial confinement awaiting trial, the statement said.
According to deputies, even though an arrest has been made, the investigation is still ongoing. Deputies noted there is still a lot of electronic evidence they seized that needs to be looked at, and said they expect to be examining it all the way until the trial. That trial is tentatively scheduled for April 18.
