MONTICELLO, Fla. (WTXL) - One woman is hurt and a house in Monticello is a total loss after a Friday night fire.
Jefferson County Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched to 821 Old Lloyd Road at about 11:40 p.m. Friday. When crews arrived less than 15 minutes later, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
A woman was home at the time of the fire but was able to get out with minor injuries. The woman was evaluated by rescue crews, who said she had soot on her face and a burn to her hand. She did not want to be taken to the hospital.
The woman reported to officials that the fire may have started from an extension cord in a room at the front of the home. She woke up when a smoke alarm started going off and tried to open the door to the room where the fire started, burning her hand. A report says she then tried to find her pets before calling 911 and leaving the home.
Crews say the fire extended to two automobiles parked outside. They say the fire is not suspicious.
The Jefferson County Emergency Operations Director and Red Cross also responded to the scene to assist.
