TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Lawmakers in Florida will hear from supporters of gun legislation Wednesday.

Moms across the state involved with Moms Demand Action will meet at the Florida State Capitol for a day of advocacy.

WTXL ABC 27's Jada Williams was there this Wednesday morning.

The moms will be asking for gun safety legislation.

That includes requiring criminal background checks on all gun sales, closing the gun show loophole and opposing the idea to arm teachers in the classroom.

Hundreds of moms statewide are coming out to the Florida State Capitol today.

Moms Demand Action says their proposals have been effective throughout other parts of the country and Wednesday is their turn to bring proposals to Florida lawmakers.

The crowd includes survivors of gun violence and those who have lost loved ones due to gun violence.

A couple of weeks ago, we introduced you to Mayra Alvear, a mother now demanding action after her daughter was shot and killed in the Pulse Nightclub shooting in 2016.

"I don't want other families to go through what I went through because it's when you wake up and you take it to bed every day," she said.

Everything begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church before making it to the Capitol at 9:30 a.m.

We'll continue to update you with their journey on air and online.
