CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A mother claimed in a Facebook post that she used breast milk in brownies for a school bake sale because she "didn't have time to run to the store."
The woman said she was seeking advice and suggestions from social media users after another woman found out about the substitute ingredient. She added that she didn't think it was that big of a deal, and "some of those kids could use the nutrition."
The post, which kept the mother anonymous, went viral almost immediately. The post has almost nearly 5,000 reactions. Comments ranged from disgusted to amused.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, breastfeeding is strongly recommended by healthcare professionals, but parents feeding a baby milk from a source other than the baby's mother should consult a healthcare expert. Donor milk should be screened and handled safely. Risks can include spreading diseases such as HIV, or worse, sharing drug contaminants.
