Mobile home residents prepare for storms

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An increase in wind speeds for our area is causing some concerns at mobile home parks as potentially severe weather heads into the area

Most people living in the mobile homes off of Sylvester Road said they plan to stick it out regardless of what the weather may bring.

Others, however, are still living in fear from previous storms.

It was a little more than a year ago when we saw mobile homes dismantled by bad weather.

On Sunday, Albany residents hoped it wouldn't come to that.

"We just staying home, and see what's gonna happen," said Maria Slavada, a mobile home resident.

Slavada plans to stick this storm out.

"I have not prepared for it, I've been here 65 years, and nothing happened yet, too bad," said David Stewart, another mobile home resident.

Stewart said he was inches away from last year's tornado.

"The last tornado we had next door, well here too, I stayed in the trailer till it comes off the ground, then I got in the car and drove down the road in the open and just sat till it went by and then I came back," said Stewart.

When asked about his precautions for Sunday's possible storms, Stewart said it's nothing he hasn't seen before.

"I'm just gonna hang here, and the good Lord will see fit what's what," explained Stewart.

Lisa Pierre, on the other hand, has only lived in her mobile home for three months.

"It's very nerve wrecking, it makes me nervous, so I don't know if I need to evacuate, or I don't really know what to do being a fairly new tenant here," said Pierre.

But Pierre said she's seen what bad weather can bring.

"It was devastating, the tree's everywhere, power lines down, people where devastated, we were literally blocked in the street," said Pierre.

Unlike Stewart, Pierre does plan to evacuate if necessary.

"My safety concerns are in reference to the wind, high wind, rain, old trees, possibly of them falling, that's a major factor," said Pierre.

Those residents also said they have seen a lot of standing water in the mobile home park from previous showers. They aren't too concerned about Sunday's possibility of flooding.
