MITCHELL COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Mitchell County is making major improvements to their 911 system with County SPLOST dollars.

The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners met earlier this week to discuss improvements to the overall system.

They say the dispatch system hasn't been upgraded since 2004.

This upgrade will allow operators to answer calls better and help the software run quicker.

"The upgrade of the 911 center will benefit the 911 dispatchers in getting help to locations where calls are at. It will also aid in the different public safety units," said Clark Harrell.

County officials say they should have the new equipment in place within the next six months.
