TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- NASA is in the process of hiring astronauts to its space program. But if you don't quite meet those requirements, the Challenger Learning Center has a program that help give you a similar experience.

So of course, WTXL Sunrise had to check it out. Take a look at what happens when Kellie, Max and company head out of this world and straight for Mars.

The Challenger Learning Center Space Mission Simulator is complete with a Mission Control room designed after NASA Johnson Space Center and an orbiting space station modeled after the laboratory on the International Space Station.

During a space mission, your team works as scientists and engineers on three different missions: Rendezvous with a Comet, Return to the Moon, and Voyage to Mars.

Emily Brown of the Challenger Learning Center says this program is what the 1986 Challenger mission was all about, teaching kids about science, technology, engineering and math in a hands-on, new way.

The space simulator is open year round for school groups, but the public can also get a chance to take part.

The Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee is located 200 S. Duval Street.
