SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Authorities found two men dead in a boat just off a Georgia island, but how they died remained a mystery early Friday.
The men were found dead Thursday afternoon just off Skidaway Island, near Savannah.
The Savannah Morning News reports that the men were believed to have taken the 17-foot outboard motor boat fishing on Tuesday. When they didn't return, they were reported missing.
U.S. Coast Guard crews searched within the Georgia Intercoastal Waterway early Thursday, but didn't locate the boat. A police helicopter Thursday afternoon finally discovered the vessel stranded in a marsh area just west of Skidaway's affluent South Harbor neighborhood. Police then found the bodies inside.
Savannah-Chatham police spokesman Julian Miller said investigators believe the boat likely hit a dock before drifting into the marsh.
