MIDWAY, FL (WTXL) -- At Midway's special council meeting, Commissioners are listening to resident concerns over Florida Statute 119 and discussing construction projects coming to the area.
Florida Statute 119 states all county and state records are open for public inspection and copying. It was a topic Thursday night at Midway's Special City Council meeting. Midway resident, Auburn Ford, filed a complaint against City Attorney, Anthony Thomas, for violating the statute.
Ford requested public records of a City Councilman's building permits. Ford says, "What they are saying is that because they couldn't find it, they charged me 12 hours of staff time to look for it, and I still didn't get it. That's not right." The bar dismissed the complaint and the Midway City Council came to the same conclusion.
Residents were also concerned about 2 current projects underway in Midway, Tallahassee Truck and R.V. Services and Four-star Freight liner. Officials say the up and coming businesses are great for the area, attracting people to the city of Midway, boosting the local economy, and creating new job opportunities.
Commissioners say the new businesses will generate tax dollars for the city. They're also making efforts to bring opportunity to its workforce. City Manager, Leslie Steele, tells us, "There's going to be a job fair that's going to bring in some jobs for this area. So, I'm excited and we're looking forward to having both of these new and exciting companies come and those that are getting ready to come in the future."
