MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Midway residents join together to help put out a fire in the Rustling Pines community.

A call came into the Midway Fire Department on Sunday around 1:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived on scene about 15 minutes after the fire was called in, but residents say it took too long.

People in the neighborhood used their home water hoses to help contain the fire until crews arrived. Chief Kent Pridemore with the Midway Fire Department, says resident efforts helped slow the fire down, and the department appreciates their help.

The Midway Fire Department is solely made up of volunteers. Chief Kent Pridemore says, "On the weekends most volunteers are reporting from their home. We always make sure there is somebody available on the weekends; but due to the fact it is volunteer, we cannot require them to be here at our station 24 hours a day."

The fire only effected two homes resulting in damages to a wooden fence and the siding of a home.
