MIDWAY, FL. (WTXL) - Some residents in Midway are upset about the newly elected city manager, claiming he's unfit for the job. At Thursday nights City Council meeting, City Manager Auburn Ford's contract was discussed. Residents are concerned about Ford's background.

The city manager says, he has been arrested and placed on probation in the past. When his criminal background was brought up, city leaders say, they did not run a background check before electing Ford to the position.

Ford claims he is qualified for the position and has always been open about his past, "When I came back to the city I was on probation, when I came back to the city and yes I did have a weapon in my car because I'm an ex-state trooper and I always have a weapon with me that's just a prior law enforcement I just have that, but it was my fault I payed the time and four of the council members saw it fit for me to come back and lead this city."

Some residents believe the state needs to come in and fix the city's problems.

Also discussed at tonight's meeting the city's financial status. According to the agenda, the city is nearly $100,000 in debt. Residents voiced their concerns about the debt but no action was taken Thursday night.
