MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) - A lack of Midway city officials meant Thursday's council meeting had to be canceled.
On the agenda was a discussion on who will fill the District 1 seat, left vacant by former City Councilman Charlie Smith, who died in February.
Smith's seat is still empty, and because two councilmembers were not at Thursday's meeting, the city business had to be put on hold.
"We're down to a 4 member council, so quorum at that moment is always an issue, when you have four," said Anthony Thomas, the Midway city attorney. "Councilmember Ron Colston had been previously excused from the meeting and Councilwoman Francis had called sick. At that point, you can't conduct business on behalf of the city when you don't have quorum."
Midway City Council meetings are normally held on the first Thursday of the month. That means the next Council meeting likely won't happen until Thursday, July 5.
