MIAMI (AP) — The expected cold snap in South Florida is prompting some organizations to open their doors to the homeless.

Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers say they are expecting more than 100 homeless to seek shelter in the next few days as the temperatures are expected to drop into the 40s with wind in excess of 15 miles per hour.

The three locations opened Monday and will continue overnight shelter until the cold weather has passed.

Officials are asking the public to donate blankets, jackets, coats and socks.
