Mexico Rescues 12 Cubans From Makeshift Raft

MEXICO CITY (AP) - The Mexican Navy says it has rescued 12 Cuban men who were found aboard a makeshift raft off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Photos supplied by the Navy on Monday showed a raft apparently made of polystyrene foam blocks tied to a framework of wooden boards.

The Navy said the rescue occurred Sunday, after a fishing boat spotted the raft adrift. It had no apparent means of propulsion.

The Cubans were given food and water and turned over to immigration authorities.
