TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – Sunday was the start of Hanukkah and a Tallahassee group celebrated by hosting a Jewish festival at Lake Ella on Sunday evening.

This was the 19th annual Jewish community Hanukkah Celebration for Chabad of Tallahassee.

Mayor John Dailey and City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow helped light a six-foot menorah made out of Legos.

People also built dreidels and enjoyed traditional Jewish foods.

"You could be proud to be a Jew and you can come out and celebrate and the government, not only is not going to prevent you but help you. And the focus and the message of Hanukkah is the message that a little bit of light overcome much darkness," said Rabbi Schneur Oirechman.

Hanukkah celebrations continue Monday in Tallahassee.

A 9 foot menorah will be lit at Florida State tomorrow on Landis Green.

That event starts at 5:30 p.m.
