TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Monday night at Landis Green Florida state students celebrated Hanukkah by lighting a 9-foot Menorah.

According to Hillel FSU, there are about 4,000 Jewish students, which makes up 10 percent of the student population on campus.

Monday night just under 100 showed up to watch the menorah lit.

The of the Chabad of Tallahassee, Rabbi Schneur Oirechman, explains what this night means to the Jewish students at FSU.

"First that the Jewish students know that they can celebrate Hanukkah in public and no one is going to prevent them from doing so and they can be happy to do so, but even more important it is to spread the message of light," he said.

Outside of the menorah lighting, people enjoyed music, food and dreidel.
