VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Two men accused of breaking into several cars in Lowndes County and Valdosta have been arrested, according to Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine.

The two young men, 20-year-old Demetrius Swopes and 18-year-old Israel Jordan Smith, were arrested on Friday, February 22. They were questioned after deputies responded to a vehicle break-in that happened in the parking lot of Northwind Apartments. When they arrived, deputies noticed the two walking on Northwind Boulevard.

Deputies reportedly found several items believed to be stolen before the arrest, including a knife, iPod, GPS, and telephone charger. Investigators interviewed the two men. They say the pair admitted they had broken into several cars across the city and county.

Swopes and Smith are charged with counts of Entering an automobile to commit a theft, which is a felony charge.

Sheriff Prine says the investigation is on-going and additional charges may follow as the investigation continues. If you have any relevant information, contact investigators at 229-671-2950 or online at www.lowndessheriff.com. Anonymous tips can be provided at 229-671-2985.
