Memorial Held for Slain FSU Law Professor Dan Markel

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Students of Florida State University, along with family and friends, honored slain FSU Law Professor Dan Markel today.

Classes were closed for a memorial that was held Tuesday at 3 p.m.

It was an emotional day for many, as hundreds packed Roberts Hall.

For about an hour, one by one, colleagues, former students, and family stood up and spoke to honor Markel, including his sister.

Markel's family and close friends were also there, hearing the voices of many that their loved one impacted.

After the ceremony there was a reception in the rotunda.

Tallahassee police say Markel was the intended target when he was shot in the head in his garage on July 18. The shooting of the popular lawyer has stunned friends, colleagues and residents of his community.

Recently, Big Bend Crime Stoppers announced the reward for information leading to an arrest in the death of Markel has been increased to $25,000.
