MEIGS, GA (WTXL) -- The signatures on a petition to hold a recall election for Mayor Linda Harris have been verified the Thomas County Board of Elections said.
The petition required 116 signatures to pass, and went through, "...by the narrowest of margins," Elections Supervisor Frank Scoggins said.
The petition came following a string of controversy around the mayor, who has been arrested for theft from the city and reportedly told police officers not to respond to certain calls after the city lost its insurance.
The election is scheduled for March, Scoggins said.
