MEIGS, Ga. (WTXL) - After announcing that she was resigning Monday night, Meigs mayor Cheryl Walters says she is rescinding her resignation upon reflection.
Walters verbally announced she was resigning Monday night at the city council meeting.
She said that Monday also marked one month since her husband died at a VA clinic in Gainesville. She told WTXL that she was burdened with managing his estate while serving as mayor so she made the decision to resign, though she never submitted a formal letter of resignation.
Walters ended up rescinding her resignation Tuesday morning upon reflection.
She said the city council needed a tie-breaking vote to pass deadlocked legislation and without her, the council could be split 3-3.
She told us that she returned to work Friday, though she's going home early due to sickness.
Walter plans to finish her term (which is the remainder of former mayor Linda Harris' term) through November 2017. She has not decided whether or not she will run for another term.
