LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Thursday was day four of Ava Van Valen’s 'Meet The People Tour'.

As a new member of the WTXL ABC 27 evening news team, Ava is on a week-long tour throughout Tallahassee and the surrounding counties, introducing herself and getting to know the people in our communities.

On Thursday she explored Lowndes County and sat down with Lieutenant Adam Bremby at the Valdosta Police Department.

Lieutenant Bremby has been with the Valdosta Police department for 14 years.

His main duty is recruiting and hiring and he says they are always looking for great candidates.

One of Lieutenant Bremby's other main focuses is the Citizens Police Academy. He says it's a crucial tool to open up the lines of communication.

"These are real people you're mailing contact with. You're answering real questions, you're hearing the situations that they've seen, they've observed," said Bembry. "You get to know these people and they get to know you."

The next Citizen's Police Academy takes place in early Spring 2019. If you are interested in taking part, look for updates and information on the Valdosta Police Department's Facebook page.

She also interviewed Adam Floyd with Wild Adventures.
