TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - In Tallahassee tonight, a rally taking place at the old Florida State Capitol in response to the Charlottesville violence. 

The event will get under way at 6:30 p.m. 

Officer Dave Northway with Tallahassee Police Department, says they will assist the capitol police, if needed.

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum through his gubernatorial campaign is calling on Governor Rick Scott to remove the confederate monument on the grounds of the old state capitol. Saying this:

"We owe it to our children and grandchildren to acknowledge that while we cannot change history, we do not have to glorify its ugliest moments with displays on public lands."

We reached out to Governor Scott and haven't heard back yet.
