TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)- Dozens of same sex couples finally said "I do" Saturday morning, just days after the federal ban on gay marriage in Florida is lifted.
Close to 50 same sex couples were married in a mass wedding ceremony at Lake Ella. The federal ban expired at midnight January 6.
The lift on the ban gave some couples like, Barbara Ross and Michelle Zieman, a sense of relief that the battle for same sex marriage in Florida is over.
"We been together since 1991 and we had our first ceremony.the one we consider the real one in 1994. It's amazing that Florida has decided to legally recognize that and so that we have all the rights and protections of any American, which makes me a little weak in the knees," said Zieman.
Newly weds indulged in some wedding cake, but the real reward of the marriage ceremonies, was the official and legal marriage certificate couples walked away with.
