VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Crews in Valdosta responded to an overflowing manhole this morning in the area of Old Statenville Road and Arlington Avenue.

According to the City about 375 gallons of waste water flowed into a tributary to Dukes Bay Canal.

They say the spill was a result of a buildup of rags and grease from a poorly maintained private sewer system that discharged into the city's sewer main.

City officials say this is the second time in the last two years where a spill at this location was caused by the improper maintenance of a private sewer system.

The property owner will now be issued a notice of violation of the city's sewer use ordinance.

This morning City crews cleaned the area, recovered waste water, and applied lime to disinfect the affected areas.
