JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A man is facing multiple charges after he was caught with a stolen motor vehicle from New Mexico in Jackson County and lying to police about his name.
Stephen Mccaulley, 32, was arrested by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office on Saturday.
Early Saturday morning, deputies responded to the I-10 area to be on the lookout for a stolen diesel pusher motor home.
The Alamogordo New Mexico Sheriff's Office requested help from JCSO in finding the vehicle that was possibly passing through Jackson County.
JCSO stated further information indicated that there may be passengers in the vehicle uninvolved in the theft and it was unknown if they were being held against their will.
JCSO said after a short time, a vehicle matching the description was found in the parking lot of the America's Best Value Inn on Highway 71 South.
Information provided by the Alamogordo New Mexico Sheriff's Office listed a possible suspect as Stephen Mcintyre, but the identity had not been confirmed and no information had been found in the database matching the date of birth.
Once the motor home was verified to be the stolen vehicle, deputies made contact with the suspect, who identified himself as Stephen Mcintyre.
Deputies soon determined that he gave them false information, and was later positively identified as Stephen Mccaulley.
Based on the evidence, he is being charged with providing false identification to law enforcement while lawfully detained.
He was taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility and further charges for the motor vehicle theft are pending from the Alamogordo New Mexico Sheriff's Office.
