TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man was sentenced to 45 years in prison for attacking a Leon County Sheriff's Deputy.

Shane Maxwell was convicted of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and two counts of resisting an officer with violence.

On September 7, 2014, deputies were called to Katie Lois Road around 5:30 a.m. because of an unspecified disturbance.

The Sheriff's Office says when Deputy Neeley Meggs Knight arrived at the home, she found 27-year-old Maxwell with a gun.

They say Maxwell then attacked Knight, giving her a broken nose, fractured cheek bones, and multiple bruises and lacerations.

The Sheriff's Office says when another deputy arrived as backup, Maxwell tried to run him over in his car. He eventually abandoned the vehicle and ran into the woods. He was later arrested after a 7 hour search.
