LEON COUNTY, FL. (WTXL) - A man accused of murdering two people in Tallahassee in May is sentenced Wednesday.

A judge gave Joseph Oakes a life sentence for both of the murder charges. Oakes was arrested in 2014 after police found two dead bodies near St Marks trail in Leon County.

Investigators say, Oakes was arrested after he admitted in a taped conversation to murdering a man and a woman with a hammer and then leaving their bodies under a pile of trash. Investigators say, he also sent two photos of the dead bodies to his ex-wife.

Oakes' girlfriend Jennifer Ellis was also arrested for helping to clean up the crime scene. Ellis is being held in the Leon County jail charged with accessory after the fact. Her bond has been set at $50,000.
