TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - The man who hit and killed a pedestrian that had run out of gasoline on I-10 was sentenced on Tuesday.
Timothy Chancey pleaded not contest, according to court documents. He was sentenced to 10-years of probation.
According to police Chancey admitted to being drowsy on the day Earnest Lee Thomas was hit in 2014.
The load was hanging over the side of Chancey's tractor-trail and hit Thomas, his SUV and another vehicle that was pulled over to help him, according to the courts.
Chancey told troopers after the crash he had not realized he had hit Thomas or the vehicles and that is why he drove away from the scene.
