TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A man serving two life sentences for killing his estranged wife and her boyfriend will get a new trial after the Florida Supreme Court ruled his confession shouldn't have been heard by jurors.
The court ruled Thursday that none of Michael McAdams' confession can be used in his retrial for the 2009 murders of Lynda McAdams and William Andrews in Pasco County.
An appeals court previously agreed McAdams' should get a new trial, but said part of his confession could be allowed.
Police interviewed McAdams about his wife's disappearance, and he confessed to killing her and Andrews. His Miranda rights were then read, and he was charged.
But investigators didn't tell McAdams that a lawyer hired by his family was at the station to help him during questioning.
