AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for causing a fatal accident while prosecutors say he was drunk and racing another vehicle.
The Augusta Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1Ne253c ) reports that 44-year-old Brandon Ross pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide Wednesday and was sentenced in Richmond County Superior Court to eight years in prison, followed by seven years on probation.
Prosecutors say Ross had been racing another driver when he crashed into Donetta McCullum's vehicle, killing the 50-year-old driver in July 2014.
The victim's husband, Terry McCullum, had asked the judge to impose the maximum 15-year prison sentence for his wife's death.
Defense attorney Kate Mason told the judge that Ross was very upset that he caused the fatal crash since the night it happened and that he remains deeply remorseful.
