TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A driver is in custody after leading Tallahassee Police on a chase.
It happened yesterday shortly before 5 p.m.
Officers say it started in the area of Dover Street and Woodward Avenue when they attempted to pull over Jerry Mordica because of a stolen license plate.
Mordica refused to stop, leaving the area. Once on Crawfordville Road, the his car hit an unoccupied Leon County Sheriff SUV and then backed into another car which was occupied by a mother and her 11-year-old daughter.
The 11-year-old was taken to the hospital for evaluation as a result of that crash.
As the car traveled near Orange Avenue, it drove onto the bike trail and toward a TPD officer, who was trying to get innocent bystanders away from danger.
TPD said that Mordica's car came so close to hitting the officer, that he believed that his life was in danger. As the he continued, he almost hit a second TPD officer on Center Road near Balkin Road.
At this point, fearing for the public’s safety, TPD officers once again attempted to stop him, starting a chase.
They said they were able to finally stop the car near Orange Avenue and Springhill Road. Another car that was not involved was also hit when police stopped Mordica, receiving an injury to her leg.
