MARIANNA, Fla. (WTXL) - A Mississippi man has been arrested after police say he led them on a chase and assaulted an officer.

According to documents, Marianna police noticed Richard Hungerford driving with intense LED lights on in front of his pick up truck Friday night.

Police say the lights were distracting to several drivers on the road, so officers tried to pull Hungerford over for a traffic violation.

But Hungerford didn’t stop and kept going, leading police on a chase.

Police say several minutes later, Hungerford stopped at a dead end on 6th Avenue. Officers then approached the vehicle and arrested him.

While attempting to place Hungerford into the patrol vehicle, he became aggressive and hit an officer.

Eventually they got Hungerford inside the patrol car and transported him to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.

Hungerford is being charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and fleeing from an officer.
