SUWANNEE RIVER Fla.-- The first sturgeon incident of 2016 was reported over the weekend, after a leaping fish knocked a man unconscious on the Suwannee River.
Officials say the sturgeon leaped into his boat during a fishing tournament.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, 62-year-old Ronald Dick and his son were traveling about 30 miles per hour, when the 4 to 5 foot fish jumped into the boat Saturday afternoon.
The 62-year-old's injuries are not considered life threatening, but he was taken to the hospital to be treated.
Last year, sturgeon strikes killed one person and injured eight in Florida.
