BELL COUNTY, TX (KXXV) - A man was indicted Wednesday for charging an elderly woman with dementia $76,145 in lawn services over 7 years.
According to the affidavit, the victim’s son told Belton Police that his mother was being overcharged for yard work at her residence over a period of years on Jan. 23.
Officer Fields learned that the victim suffered from dementia and entered a contract for lawn services with Lus Fuentes. His company, L&J Lawn Service, offered a senior discount to the victim. The annual work contract between the victim and Fuentes stated the cost was $3,600 per year.
After investigating, Officer Fields learned that the annual fee for services was charged to the victim multiple times a year with additional costs for no reason, according to the affidavit.
In total, Fuentes charged the victim $76,145 for yearly lawn services for over 7 years and one month. Adding up the charges, the total amount overpaid through 2013-2018 was $47,345.
Fuentes was charged with theft of property $30,000 or more but less than $150,000. He was indicted on Wednesday.
